Vergers de Romilly
After a full day of WW2 battlefields and cemeteries, we made a detour on a side road just behind La Cambe German Military Cemetery. There sits the rustically elegant Vergers de Romilly, a producer of artisanal calvados, cider, and pommeau, an aperitif of blended apple brandy and cider. Free tastings of the Norman apple-based spirits are graciously offered inside a dimly lit barn evoking the ambience of “la cave” or “the cellar”. Everything we tasted was fresh, nuanced, and delicious – in addition to the spirited beverages- Vergers de Romilly has a line of cider and calvados- infused fruit jams, and our personal favorite confit du cidre – a honey-like condiment that pairs nicely with the Norman specialty cheeses – Camenbert and Pont l’Evèque.
On Wednesdays Vergers de Romilly offers a free 2-hour tour of their grounds and production facilities
