COLLEVILLE-SUR-MER, France — The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) will implement a visitor pre-registration system at the Normandy American Cemetery starting April 1, 2026, the agency announced this week.

The change is intended to manage increasing visitor traffic and preserve the commemorative experience at the site, which honors American service members who died during World War II. The pre-registration system will help regulate daily attendance and may include capacity limits during peak times.

Visitors arriving without a reservation may be asked to return on an alternate date if the site reaches capacity, ABMC officials said. The agency emphasized that the system is being designed to ensure access remains available while maintaining the solemnity of the site.

Group tour operators and other organizers are being encouraged to plan ahead, though specific registration procedures have not yet been detailed. More information will be made available as the implementation date approaches.

The Normandy American Cemetery is one of 26 overseas cemeteries managed by the ABMC, which was established by Congress in 1923 to commemorate the service and sacrifice of U.S. armed forces abroad.
